Course Overview
Enhance Your Clinical Skills and Deliver Care with Confidence and Autonomy
This comprehensive one-day CPD-certified course, delivered by Dr. Parikshit Patel through SAGE Academy, is designed to help GDC-registered dental hygienists and dental therapists improve their knowledge and hands-on skills in local anaesthesia (LA).
With a combination of 4 hours of in-depth theory and 3 hours of practical training, this course provides everything you need to safely and confidently administer local anaesthetics in line with current legal and clinical standards.
You’ll cover key topics such as the scientific principles of LA, pharmacology, anatomical landmarks, and injection techniques for both maxillary and mandibular regions. Recent legal updates now allow dental hygienists and therapists to administer LA without a prescription or PGD, provided they complete a recognised training course—and this course meets that requirement.
Throughout the day, you’ll take part in live demonstrations and supervised practice, using manikin jaws and/or peer exercises, allowing you to apply your learning in a controlled and supportive environment. You’ll also learn how to reduce complications, manage patient comfort, and record your procedures accurately and legally.
Why This Course Is Essential
Did you know:
✅ You cannot administer local anaesthetic without a written
prescription—unless you complete a recognised exemption-based training
course?
✅ Recent changes in law now allow hygienists and therapists to
administer LA without needing a prescription or PGD, provided
they’re suitably trained?
✅ This course ensures you're prepared to deliver treatment safely,
legally, and confidently, while improving workflow and patient
experience?
✅ You will also learn how to accurately document clinical procedures,
ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory expectations?
These changes represent a significant step forward in professional autonomy—and this course ensures you’re ready to embrace them.
